Tugby Results for April 6, 2014

I think that you would have to say that we had a "lagalicious" day last Sunday.  We decided that we would need to run 3 on 3 games rather than the normal 4 on 4 games.  Thanks to the players that graciously sat out for a game so that we could play on.

We were able to complete three games and the individual scores for the day are below and below that the cumulative scores for the season.  Let's pray to the anti-lag gods that next Sunday will be better.  Go to THIS link for pictures.

Dagger 2 / 2

Allie         1 / 2
Carla 0 / 3
Forrest 1 / 2
Skye 1 / 3
Lynn 2 / 2
Yas         1 / 2

Tugby Results March 16, 2014

Sundays are always a busy day at Starboards Yacht Club, with Tugby, Sailboat races, and then the PowerBoat event.  Last Sunday was no exception, if you have not seen the description of the Great Powerboat Raft Up, you really need to take a look at the pictures HERE.

The day started with Tugby with seven players playing four games.  (It is so easy to referee now with the Tugby Hud that I was able play a couple of games.)  Cumulative results for the Spring season are below.

Tugby Hud - Puck Rezzer and Game Controls

Yasmin gave me the following description of the functions of the Tugby Hud and I wanted to share it with all of you.  What a GREAT tool!
Please join me in thanking Yasmin!

"Some notes on the Tugby puck rezzer and game controls...

The main controller is in a prim under the center point of the Tugby field, controls are accessed by clicking on a small hud/button on your screen to get a dialog menu from the main controller. Feel free to modify the hud prim to make it larger or change the texture etc, you just need to be able to Touch it and be aware that it changes color when goals are scored.

The device recognizes one user as the Referee with all the control options, other users can touch their hud to get a dialog popup with current game scores. Any users with the Tugby Captains group active will have the option to take the Referee role, this will be announced in a shout but the game state will not be changed.

I shall describe the function of the buttons on the Referee menu...
rez - silently and instantly rez a puck
START! - shouts score & a countdown before rezzing puck
    derez - removes the puck

If you are just practicing then "rez" is the simplest option, but for match play then use START! The puck will self-destruct after 30 minutes, and old pucks destroyed before new ones are rezzed.

The second row of buttons are for resetting scores and game types
zero - set both team scores to 0 and unset "Best of 3/5" modes
2of3 - zero team scores and set win score
2of5 - zero team scores and set win score

And note that you can manually adjust the scores via the "[Score +/-]" button.

There are two toggle options
Auto - this option means you trust the goal line detector script and will skip the Referee confirmation of goal
Nudge - give the puck a small random initial velocity as it is rezzed, to mimic human variation in puck placement

That covers the main features, I'm adding minor tweaks & fixes as they occur to me - I just added a rez-to-goal timer, and a "Panic!" button for Players to alert Refs.

Please feel free to try the thing for yourself and let me have any questions, feedback or suggestions and I'll try to make improvements. Whilst the main intent is to assist the Ref this is something for all Tugby players. If it is useful for Nber for the Sunday matches then its just as handy for running impromptu games to for practice and fun. Enjoy.... :-)

Tugby HUD!

Yasmin (YouAintSeenMe) has been a GREAT help in partially automating the referee's job for Tugby.  She wrote a script that when put in the End Lines of the Tugby Field shout when the Tugby Puck collides with them.  This helps the referee in that you don't have to peer so closely at the puck all the time.  NOW she has scripted a HUD that helps even more!!

The Tugby Hud has a lot of functionality,  Below is a screen shot of the referee's hud - below is some text from the first use of it.  Yasmin... thank you!!

Tugby Results Updated for February 23rd, 2014 - End of the Winter Season

What a GREAT day yesterday!  I am still stoked.  I will be doing a "Nber's Corner" article on the Tugby Hud ...but I will say here... that I am a real fan of Yasmine's work.

I do need to report also that I made some errors on last week's scores.  Those have now been corrected, please see the previous Tugby Results post.

Last Sunday marked the end of the Winter Season, we reset the scores beginning with next Sunday.  I'd like to congratulate Allie with her first place in Points Earned.  For those players with more than 20 games under their belts, Lynn had the highest Win %.

Also, Dagger is announcing some pick up games during the week.  Watch the group notices for her announcements.

Today's Nber's Corner Is all about Tugby!

The game of Tugby has been in Second Life for a very long time...I'll have to check the dates of its first creation by Joepie Korobase.  I did the video below about four years ago and Tugby as a game was around for quite some time before that.  The video below needs to be updated and when I get a chance I will do that.  Come and play with us in lovely Santa Cruz region every Sunday morning at 8 am SLT.  Everything you need to play is FREE and the fun and comradeship is also free.
